Frank's burial location is unverified. It is believed he is buried in the family plot with his daughters, or in the Town of Holton Cemetery. No headstone was found and the cemetery records were destroyed in a fire. Town of Holton Cemetery Location, Unconfirmed Location Map . Perhaps he is buried in the Corinth Cemetery. His death certificate indicates he was buried in Dorchester. No record could be located of his burial in any of the Dorchester cemeteries. An exhaustive search found no published obituary for Frank, a common newspaper practice for natural deaths occurring pre-1910. This search included all of the area newspapers (Marathon, Clark and Lincoln Counties) published in the English and German languages. It should be noted that the Athens Record did not publish a newspaper until October of 1901 three years after Frank's death.
It is mentioned in "Holton's Heritage 1875-1975 Booklet" that, In Section 12 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Proft buried two pre-school aged girls who died of diphtheria. They were buried on the home plot. This plot will be found on Marathon County A on the north side of the road. There are several evergreen trees on the plot."

His wife Agnes Wiese was born 9-26-1866 in Schlochau, Germany. She immigrated to America in 1883. She and Frank married 9-28-1885. Frank died at the young age of 40 of heart disease 12-13-1898. Agnes then married Peter Jacobs 2 1/2 years later, 7-4-1900. They remained on Frank's Town of Holton farm. Agnes and Peter conceived more children. The family relocated to Minnesota. It appears most of the children remained in the Twin Cities area. Agnes died 12-11-1935 and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Frank's widow Agnes (Wiese) PROFT marries Peter Jacobs
Agnes was re-married to Peter Jacobs 7-4-1900 and resided in the Township of Holton, Marathon County, Wisconsin. Marriage record information posted below. It is assumed Peter and Agnes moved the family to Minnesota shortly before the 1910 Federal Census, since the family did not appear in the 1910 Marathon County the Township of Holton census. During 1917 and 1918 WWI draft registration records indicate Bernard, Paul and Richard resided in Dakota, County, MN (Hastings, MN and Herbert in Anoka County, MN.

Mary's "Affidavit of Birth" as attested by her uncle Paul Proft Sr. Mary's Bible Record
Birth, Marriage and Death Records were not well reported until after the 1900's. Persons requiring proof of birth had to find someone willing to attest to one's birth. Herbert was the only child of Frank and Agnes that apparently had a birth record reported. That record was completed by the Town of Holton Clerk Chas Ouimette who later submitted the record to the Marathon County Courthouse.
